Greenstar Community Projects: School & Community Food Gardens for Self-Reliance
April 4 @ 5:30 pm - 8:00 pm
Tompkins County Public Library (BorgWarner Room)
Thursday, April 4th, 5:30 to 8:00 PM.
This Local Food Network session is intended to boost sustainability of existing gardening efforts by hearing briefly from a variety of garden leaders about:
Ways to support increased participation from young people and families (of every background) in existing gardens.
Ways to increase support of garden infrastructure (via shared funding, in-kind swaps of supplies, volunteer labor, etc);
Ways to build a contact base that crosses race, class and place to help kids and families build skills, knowledge and contacts to increase their food self-sufficiency;
Plans to connect school and community gardens to the school curriculum (eg. through the Farm to Table, and Farm to School grants, etc).
Strengthened implementation of Ithaca’s Comprehensive Plan (which states that “All residents will enjoy food security… and have opportunities to grow their own food through private or community gardens”)
