The Cradle to Career School Readiness working group is organizing to bring the film “The Raising of America” to communities throughout the BOCES region for a free public viewing and discussion. The film is a wake-up call about the state of early childhood care and development in the United States. Many of the challenges and issues highlighted in the film are common right here in the Finger Lakes, and we want to hear from the families and communities themselves about what they find their challenges, and potential solutions, to be.
This film has led to conversations throughout our nation that reveal ways communities can put the needs of families and children first, using creative and unique methods to solve our child care crisis. Children are our future, and they need nurturing and opportunity to reach their full potential. Something needs to shift to ensure that families and communities have the resources they need to provide flexible and responsive care and education—in order to improve conditions and outcomes for every child and family.
We hope that this effort will lead to strategies that help address the child care crisis in our local communities.
